132 participants from all about the world took part in the WMA GA London. Stepan Firstov being the WMA AM and the Presidium member of the All-Russian public organization Society of doctors of Russia was pleased to meet his colleagues. The meeting was held in a virtual format.
The Main Meeting of the 218th Council Session was run after the Associate Members Meeting, two days of the Scientific Session on antimicrobial resistance, medical ethics committee, socio-medical affairs committee and financial and planning committee discussions. Particularly, they discussed new technologies in medicine, vaccination, chronic diseases, occupational health, control over tobacco distribution, online medical education, donation, professional self-regulation, safety of patients and physicians, elimination of discrimination and improvement of trade lines between countries, pharmaceutical companies as well as climate change awareness. The WMA stated for interests of the physicians from different countries and support them.
During the Main Meeting of the 218th Council Session the WMA Council Chair Frank Montgomery and the WMA Secretary General Otmar Kloiber presented their welcoming speeches. The WMA Council members decided to form five working groups. And members of some groups were declared from the Associate Membership under the support of its Chairman Joe Heyman.
«At the WMA GA relevant topics were discussed from the fight against the coronavirus to the use of electronic cigarettes», noted the WMA AM Stepan Firstov. «Discussions turned to be quite interesting and informative from professional point of view, the most relevant knowledge and the latest approaches in the medicine were considered».
At the close there was the Assembly Ceremonial Session and the WMA President David Barbe told his valedictory speech. Now his is the Past- President. Testimonial speeches were presented from the President of the British Medical Association Chaand Nagpaul and the Chief Medical Officer for England, prof. Chris Whitty and addressed to all participants. The GA ended with the inauguration procedure of the new WMA President Heidi Stensmyren and the Plenary Session, during which the invitations were provided from the French Medical Association to the 220th WMA Council Session in Paris as well as from the German Medical Association to the next WMA GA in Berlin, 2022.
In general, the list of topics and issues of the GA in London 2021 was quite extensive, which proves multidisciplinary and multidimensional nurture of the medicine. Only with improving of supply chain, government support, development of industries and scientific activity a high level of the Healthcare system can be achieved.
